Big Creek Greenway – from Union Hill Park to Marconi Dr. Park and back
9936 steps / ~4.4 miles
This section got off to a promising start. It began at Union Hill Park, which has a skate park and what looks like a concert venue, but not much else. It was really cool to start at the trailhead furthest away from Big Creek Park, the complete opposite end of the Greenway from my usual stomping grounds. The trail was front loaded with a sizeable section of boardwalk, and y’all know I love a good boardwalk. I even got to walk through a tunnel!
So, why wasn’t this my favorite section?
Too much road time, man. My favorite sections of the Greenway are the ones furthest away from cars. This section had me walking right up on the street for miles until I reached the cluster of business parks that is the Marconi Dr. area. Also, there were barely any benches and I was dying to just sit down and take a drink of water.
I did pass by the backside of a few office buildings, and some of them even had seating. But I didn’t think I was welcome to sit there. I was working, but not as an employee of that office. I was working on crossing off this section on the map and being done with it, honestly, haha.
One cool thing, though, is that this section of the Greenway runs by Camp Creek. I got to see two creeks for the price of one that day, so I can’t complain too much.
