Epilogue

I acknowledge that not everyone with my conditions (POTS and “hypermobility syndrome [possible EDS]”) gets to be as mobile as I am. Even with my relatively mild case of both, I feel grateful every time I’m having a good day, not flaring up, and able to walk a mile, much less 4 in one go.

I’m also grateful to my boyfriend, Noah. For walking parts of this journey with me. For inspiring me to challenge myself in the first place. For walking at the same pace as I do (hey, that’s important in a walking companion!) I miss him dearly – he’s currently out of “easy-ish weekend drive” range and I’m lucky if he even has cell service – but in reminiscing about my Big Creek Greenway journey, I’ve realized that he played a big part in it. His AT ambitions spurred on my Big Creek ambitions and he’s been so supportive and encouraging the whole time I’ve been on my much, much smaller adventure.

Let me not minimize my efforts, though: I made a goal and I stuck to it! At the end of the year, not everyone will be able to say they stuck to their New Year’s resolution, but I did.

Hell yeah. I’m proud of myself.

If you’re thinking of walking the Big Creek Greenway, I highly recommend it! And, who knows – we might cross paths.
